Ariel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
While nine months pregnant, I graduated from the Art Institute of Houston with an Interior Design Degree in 2009. Due to the economy at the time, jobs were up in the air for design companies, and I knew ID graduates were having a hard time finding positions in Houston. This led me down a path I thought I was ready for. In 2010, with my newborn son, Bryce, I filed a DBA for ‘Aryce Designs’, which takes inspiration from my and my son’s names. However, right around that time I began to truly learn that being a new mom and bonding with my son was going to need %100 of my focus. When Bryce was barely a few months old, I decided to put the business on pause until he got older. I thought it was a good idea to start our new journey together while I grew to better understand my passion.
Fast forward to 2018.
I was working full time in property management which was all about meeting new people, building strong friendships and developing leadership skills. Our team had a great habit of taking care of one another, and I made sure whomever I was working with came together to make birthdays over the top and special. I did my first tablescape for my boss at a steakhouse in 2018. While setting up before everyone arrived, the restaurant staff watched how quickly I designed the table and admired detailed it was. When my coworkers arrived, they were just in awe and said I should start doing professionally because I had shown so much passion for it. The birthday and celebration requests started piling up, and I started getting more creative.
The support was unbelievable.
During Christmas break, I was back home in Bay City, TX visiting my parents. I renewed my DBA so I could start pursuing my business full time. Summer 2019 was a breakthrough season for me because I hosted a reveal party to announce my business and went live with my website. Since then, we have been so blessed and thankful for everyone who has supported us, and who’s spread the word about our business. There is something special about creating a new, joyful moment so that memory can last a lifetime with loved ones. We love being a part of that memory.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
So far, it has been a smooth ride. Of course, we have had a few hiccups down this journey, but it’s something that we have learned from. Due to Covid-19, we’ve paused operations because of the self-distancing and at-home quarantine. However, we’re using this time to further develop our services and will be running as soon as we get out of this bubble.
Please tell us about Aryce Designs.
Aryce Designs is based off making something magical for a special moment. We do tablescapes, wedding showers, weddings, baby showers, office surprise, and picnics. This all started with tablescapes. People began to ask asked if I could do various other designs and placements, which after many successes expanded the variety of services we offer.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, this is a good question. I have a friend who owns his own business and he has been my rock/mentor since I began. He has helped me do everything step by step so if I didn’t have him, then I am sure I would have a very long list of things to add to this question. Having guidance and someone there to help you along the way makes everything so much easier and less stressful.
